Congratulations and Welcome!
I can not express how excited I am to have you join The Tiny House Master Plan. You have joined a community with others like you, with our community sponsors, and with me in this crazy idea to build a tiny home and show for free.
Over the next few weeks, I will personally share with you the behind the scenes. How this project came to be, how we pull it off, and how you can be involved as a community member.
…I’ve got you here and now, so…
Let’s inspire the crap out of you! 💩😂
The making of “Stargazer” (the name of the house we are giving away), begins with the housing industry sucking; houses today are poorly built, expensive, unsustainable, and full of harmful chemicals.
So I decided to build my own house…
…then help others do the same.
Becoming a tiny house owner forever changed my life.
Take a tour of my personal tiny house in Episode 1 below to understand.
(You can also jump straight to >>Episode 5<<…
…I’ll share how it changed my life & how it can change yours too.)
Becoming a tiny house owner forever changed my life…
…and I wanted others to get the same benefits.
To live debt free.
To own a house they are proud of.
To gain lifestyle and financial freedom.
So I put together the most comprehensive “crash-course” I could.
So others could do this faster, cheaper, and with less mistakes than I did.
So people like you and I could make housing awesome again.
You can check out the workshop >>HERE<< if you want to jump right in.
I also made this free video on how to design a tiny home.
In it I share 13 types of “tiny house people”… which are you?
As you can tell by now, I am passionate about tiny homes and sustainability.
So when the lock-down occurred (and I couldn’t teach in-person)…
… that wasn’t going to stop me from helping people like you!
First, I put my Tiny House Workshop online.
(I turned my girlfriend’s spare bedroom into a green room! LOL.)
Second, I started on YouTube to teach for free.
“The Tiny House Master Plan” was born.
The goal? An edu-tainment docu-series to inspire the world.
The true story of how we build and give away a tiny house for free.
(Think Mike Holmes, meets Bill Nye, meets Big Brother.)
I leveraged my professional network. (Unabashedly ask for sponsors.)
I secured post-secondary students to help. (Basically free interns.)
I donated my time. (We don’t talk about how many hours…)
I also had some crazy design ideas…
…like making this tiny home a portable theatre and venue.
Check it out:
Getting a good design and team did take some time, but it wasn’t that hard…
But finding a free shop to build “Stargazer”… that was no small ask.
We did find a shop space…
…it was a hoarders paradise!
We cleaned it up… and then it burned down.
Here is the crazy story and how we got back on our feet:
Building a tiny house for FREE is the hardest thing I have ever done…
…it would not have been possible without two early sponsors:
1) Timbren Suspension Systems – possibly the best axle system out there.
2) Oasis Trailer Manufacturing – possibly the best trailer makers on the continent.
I drove to their facility where they show you “how-it’s-made” and we pick up the trailer we are building on top of:
Time to start building this crazy tiny house!!
We had a team of framers come in. I filmed the whole process and turned it into a bad music video. Hahaha. You can watch that >>HERE<<
But what apparently is our “best” video (most viewed on YouTube) is our interview with the framer. We nerd out on how we used metal framing… and you could too!
Enjoy these nuggets of education, inspiration, and wisdom:
As a teacher of sustainability, I made the executive choice to work with companies and products that would make Stargazer SUPER EFFICIENT.
With the framing complete, next we needed to build the rest of our wall assembly. That includes ZIP panels, an HRV, and more…
I gathered my capstone students / interns (this was my second group!)…
… and here is the result!
Watch to learn how to make your house efficient:
If you want to watch a fight, put a bunch of window installers in a room with 1 window to be installed. (Spoiler alert: they will not agree).
In my tiny house workshop, I teach how to install a window in a way I have yet to find a window installer disagree with… no small feat!
So I made this DIY video, which I normally teach in my workshops, for free.
Windows are one of the weakest points in a house…
… they are cold weak points.
… they have moisture issues.
… and they often are installed incorrectly.
I hope you enjoy this educational DIY instructional.
I promise you, you will never look at windows the same way.

During Season 1 so much happened…
…not all of it made it into an episode.
Here is a “power” recap of Season 1:
In season 1, we captured our own story.
I was filming, scripting, planning, building…
… it was too much for 1 person to do.
Which is why Season 2 is SO EXCITING.
We got a professional film team.
We reached Netflix quality… check it out:
Stargazer gets drop dead gorgeous siding.
When it comes to a roof material, you can’t beat metal.
Long lasting, lightweight, and water comes off it clean!
And of course, we also got solar panels on Stargazer 🙂
I also slip in a “Bill Nye session” and teach you the basics of how to design and build a house anywhere in the world.
…but then we had some drama…
Can I be honest with you?
This is my favourite episode of the whole series so far.
A lot of excitement happened…
…the stove… the ASMR spray foam… the cliffhanger…
…but this is my favourite episode because of audience participation.
During Season 1, I asked the email list for input.
It’s how this tiny house got the name “Stargazer” for example.
But I also asked everyone – “Should we put underglow lights on?”
The answer was yes.
And it’s amazing. Check it out:
You know what’s a pain in the butt when building a tiny house?
Trying to hide the seams.
In normal house building, you just slap up drywall. Mud. Sand. Paint.
But in a tiny house, your walls flex = cracks. (+ drywall is heavy).
So we decided to make a lot of work for ourselves…
…we are celebrating the seams. Not hiding them.
The result? You will see.
Oh, and spoiler alert – we lost our shop again.
When making a tiny house on wheels, you need to keep weight down.
So we made lightweight concrete kitchen countertops…
… and also our tub! (More on that later).
These kitchen counters turned out GORGEOUS.
Here is how how you can make them DIY:
Coming soon… 🙂
Keep on scrolling!
We got an offer + more to the story.
While the tiny house is getting finished by our final sponsors, I certainly am not twiddling my thumbs (I don’t seem that type do I, haha).
Once the house is complete, we might take it for the tour is was originally made for – with its drop-down stage wall it would make an amazing venue for events, workshops, and concerts.
Maybe we will just get straight to the giveaway.
But that seems anti-climatic right?
And then? Who knows?!
Should we build ANOTHER house?
(This time, I will need a Netflix or HBO to foot the bill.)
While I will always teach tiny house courses, there is more…
I believe in you and I, to make homes, landscapes, AND communities.
And that is precisely why I made an Attainable Sustainable Academy.
Our goal is to change the world, one person, one property, one community at a time.
