A: The online course is open right now. We open/close it 4 times a year to have batches of students. 

The retreats have first-come-first-serve enrollment (max 24 students).  Registration closes 1 week before start date. See each retreat for remaining availability.

A: After you enroll, you’ll get an email confirmation with next steps. Online students can start right away. Retreat students will get housekeeping emails to prepare them for the adventure ahead.

A: The online program is divide into sections, and each section has a library of videos with each video ranging from 10-40 min. The monthly meet-ups are announced each month but always fall on a Wednesday at 5pm PST. They are 90 min long. 

The Retreat program is over 7 days and classes are usually 90 min long. See each retreat for further details.

A: Get a full refund if you put the course information into use and it does not work for you! Show me you put the work in and, if it doesn’t work, I’ll refund you and even pay you $100 for wasting your time.*

*You have to prove that you have put the course content and information into action to use. (You stay accountable to your goals, and we stay accountable to providing high value). 

A: I got my first permaculture design certificate with Rob Avis in 2010, then did an internship in Australia under Geoff Lawton in 2012, a heavyweight in the permaculture world (and HE studied under Bill Mollison, the guy who started permaculture!).

After travelling the world for 2 years working on Permaculture projects, I got certified as a Permaculture Teacher under the Permaculture Research Institute and started a permaculture school in Barbados, where I trained over 100 permaculture designers. I’ve since done 150+ consultations and designs for private clients and government bodies, and mentored over 1600 students.

When it comes to off-grid living, I draw on my own experiences of living in a tiny home that I designed and built. I’ve students around the world who have built their own homes, created inspiring landscapes, and even gone on to become designers and teachers. I have also created over a dozen edible landscapes for clients including personal homesteads, city gathering spaces and schools, and First Nations reserves.

A: I designed this course to keep you engaged and awake! My lessons don’t feel like stuffy university lectures. I crack jokes, use a special software called Prezi to make engaging visuals, and give you hands-on assignments during the course and for you to stay accountable for years. I am a passionate and professional teacher who wants to provide you as much value, and engage you, as much as I can.

A: The biggest thing that makes ASA unique is how we train you to be a generalist so you understand how everything works and goes together. This holistic learning give you a lens to understand your world, how it works, and how you can then work within it. 

Most courses out there either focus on theory OR practical application. We give you both. You learn design AND practical skills and knowledge for every day living including off-grid living, food production, waste management, water management, and more.

The whole experience is delivered by a professional educator who lives and breathes what he is teaching, and you are supported by a community. 

A: You will receive a certificate, but not the designation of a certified Permaculture Designer. While the 101 online course is over 72 hours (the pre-requisite for certification), and while the 101 retreat experience is JAM packed, both the 101 program options are designed for personal life. To maintain a high standard for the movement, you can become a certified Permaculture designer by taking a 201 retreat to home your skills and even pursue a career.
